As Neil Munro's Para Handy" was always saying, as he wound his way
through the Western Isles of Scotland, in his little Puffer - the Vital Spark:
"If you've no' got the navigation - where are
you?"
and, if you have never read Munro's "Para Handy
Tales", then sheer delight surely awaits you on some cold winter's evening (or at any
other time for that matter).
But, to the matter at hand ... No, we are not into Coastal
Navigation. We will leave all that to the Power Squadron. But we do think
that some hints on how to navigate SharkBytes may be of assistance.
Remember though, that were are talking aesthetics (maybe even
"cosmetics") here.
The purpose of SharkBytes is to
provide timely and useful information to Shark sailors -
If you can get there and see/read/download what you want then the job is done and you may
not need all this!
- so, that having been said, here are some pointers on how you may
best be able to find your way around ...
Click the Header "button" above and read over
"Aids to ..." to make sure your browser is giving you your best view.
If you are using the "Directory view" and find that
trying to read a page which doesn't fit in the right hand frame is annoying, right click
in the frame and select "Open Frame in a New Window" or the Netscape equivalent,
to display it full screen. Remember to close it when you are finished or you will
end up running multiple "browser sessions"!
To set the system to view all pages "full screen"
for so long as you remain logged in to SharkBytes,
select Navigation from the Directory and click on the Header "button "Page
view". You will then be able to get around the site using the
Directory or the Site Map and "Latest News", with each page you
access displaying full screen. The system will revert to the two frame
mode if you leave and log in again.
If you know that you will always want to use the Page
view, do as above, display the page you want to start with and then, in Netscape, "Bookmark" the page or, in
IE, add it to your "Favorites" and always enter SharkBytes that way (you will
lose the Home Page "alternating logos" but that's all)
In "Page view" you may still get some pages which need
horizontal scrolling (you can't do anything about vertical scrolling). If so it is
probably my fault so please click here
to let me know where it happened!
If you select "Directory view" by mistake when you are
already using it, you will get two menus! Get rid of the second one by clicking
again, for the same page, on the Left Hand menu
Happy Cruising!
