After I got it home I looked at what had to be done.Stringers were bad, rot under keel plates, bottom
needed to be sand blasted along with keel, bolts replaced, hull painted, and some top side work.
So far all work is done other than top side work that I can do in the spring. I have about 150 hrs
in so far and $300.00 in material.Nice project I will have a new boat when finished.I learned a lot if you

No problem. I am not an expert at the doing part only an expert at
accumulating the info..I leave the doing to the pros. We have just about done
everything one could do to a Shark however my network of friends and comrades
(both coastal, and deep water sailors) along with all of the people that I
worked with in the marine industry have given me a resource that is
fantastic. Again I may not have first hand experience on all problems but you
can rest assured with the network in place there are people that can assist me
with anything from refitting a centreboard on a dinghy to refitting or engine
on a super tanker to sailing in English Bay or sailing around the world in
265 days non stop single handed in a Contessa 32.

Cheers ...

Subject: Fw: Double jeopardy's overhaul with pictures

Here are a few pics of "Double Jeopardy" # 944, under way a major overhaul.
As you can see in the pictures the deck is lifted up to allow us to get rid of the rub rail and the gallons of caulking this boat has seen throughout the years to try, (and fail) at making it water tight! When the work is done she will be sporting a new colour, and be the second shark to be one piece, (gange green being the other). Yes that's right we are going to glass the hull and the deck together. This will solve the water leaking problem. We will be dropping the keel, and taking the hull down to its gel coat.
Unfortunately the boat will not be ready for the water until late August, so if anyone out there needs a few young men from the Grand Bend area as crew we would love to help!

Anyway see ya on the water,

The boys from Grand Bend!!

(NOTE: #944 is owned by Jason Mansfield)

Hello,

Just thought I'd drop an email and say hello. We are cruisers here having never raced. (not that I have not thought about it). We are Lake Erie bound and travel from Erie to Port Dover and Port Burwell most.

(Webmaster's note: Article "snipped" to conserve space.  For the full text of Floyd's Autohelm installation see "Greetings from #140 in Erie, Pa" in  Shark Talk - Cruising Chat)

A little about myself. I am a retired Merchant Marine Master Radio Electronics Officer. I have spent a good part of my life traveling at sea on mostly large ocean going container vessels. There were no radio operators on the Great Lakes since 56 or 53 or somewhere back then so I have never worked on the Great Lakes. We worked mostly for Sealand Service. In 1999 the USA Radio Officers were taken off the USA ships and my job was gone thanks to cheap labor rates and reduced saftey inspection requirements from foreign flagged shipping. Since then I operate a small computer store and sail when ever I can find time and energy and a good companion to go with when the wife doesn't go. I do computer consulting and marine electronics and would be glad to answer any questions about my electronics on the shark.

might want to post it somewhere on the website.

Anyway ... let me know if you have problems!
