A Report to the President, Executive,
and Members of the Canadian Shark Class Association
at the Annual general meeting, january 26, 2002.
from Eric Calvert, Vice President - Racing
Recommendation: That the CSCA adopt mandatory use of the standardized
regatta entry form, nor, si’s and report form for all regattas which
count towards Shark of the Year.
2001 Goals and Achievements
1. Fine Tune Standardized Regatta Forms. This included updating
for 2001 Racing Rules of Sailing and incorporating corrections and
suggested improvements.
2. Prepare the CSCA Regatta Calendar and make sure it’s finalized
and published by the end of February.
The 2002 Calendar will be presented at this AGM. At
present, there are some holes in the schedule due to unresolved
schedule conflicts and unconfirmed plans with some yacht clubs. In
one case I, as outgoing VP Racing, may have a conflict of
interest; so this matter will be left to my successor to resolve.
3. CREATE a Database of Shark racers – skippers and crew – in
Canada.
Unfortunately no progress was made on this goal in 2001.
However I have supported recent efforts to establish a
subscription-based e-mail List for the Class. This could be an
excellent vehicle for promoting CSCA regattas.
4. promote shark racing in canada.
The Racing Page was maintained with regular posting of
Regatta Calendar, results, racing news, standardized forms for
regatta organizers, and other documents of interest to Shark
racers.
Highlights of the 2001 Racing Season
The Shark of the Year counter series successfully attracted increased
participation (see statistics below).
The series returned to Quebec after a long absence with the Coupe du
Quebec, held at Pointe Claire YC.
An outstanding level of participation was seen at the North American
Championship held at Kingston YC.

Final Thoughts
I am stepping down as Vice-president Racing to focus my limited time on
my responsibilities as Regatta Chairman for the 2003 Shark Worlds.
If asked, I will gladly work with the new VP Racing to aide in the
transition.
It has been a privilege to serve the class as VP Racing and I hope to
return to the CSCA executive in some capacity in the future.
