2000 REPORT OF OTTAWA REGION SHARKS

Shark activities continue at a very satisfactory level on Lac des Chenes. However we are seeing some slackening off in interest as measured by the criteria of the number of Class memberships. I personally put this decline down to 3 general causes.

* A more demanding and time consuming business environment.

* More sharkies in our region are leasing boat time from the local Sailing School and we are not currently getting memberships. (We as a class will have to find ways to make both the full and associate memberships more appealing particularly since all the web sites are open to anyone.)

* A temporary decline in our local fleet's ability to communicate with local shark sailors. (We are again in a position to more actively communicate in our region using email)

However the realization that we are to host the Shark Worlds in 2003 is beginning to dawn on the fleet and this should provide us with the push and focus which we need to address our local situation.

The other item of Class interest is the plan to loan the Eastern Ontario Quebec Shark Counter Regatta to Montreal in 2001. Eric Calvert will speak more about this proposal during the race date scheduling part of this meeting.
