NORTH SHORE SHARK CLASS ASSOCIATION (NSSCA) REPORT

TO THE CANADIAN SHARK CLASS ACCOCIATION 2000 AGM

I am pleased to report that 2000 was another successful year for the NSSCA.

*   The Mimico Cruising Club hosted a “Spring Sailing Seminar” for Shark sailors. It was very well attended, featuring a panel of past and current Shark World Cup champions, plus boat hardware, rudders, mast, and boat repair / refurbishing company representatives. This seems to be a very popular event for Shark owners, crew, and sailors in general.

*   The “Olympic IceBreaker” Regatta at the Toronto Sailing & Canoe Club was very well organized and attended by many classes, but not the Sharks. Only 3 Sharks participated in spite of very nice weather for this May holiday long weekend. Jim Barkman and the Silver Phantom crew won this event.

*   The “Trillium” Regatta at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club attracted 26 Sharks who raced in both spinnaker and white sail divisions. The RCYC Shark sailors and the Regatta management put on a great regatta - won by John Clark and the Dartos crew.

*   The “C & C Owners” Regatta hosted by The National Yacht Club brought out 15 Sharks. It was great to see a number of new boats and crews not usually seen at our North Shore regattas. Don Sutherland and the Hedonist crew won this C & C traditional event.

*   The “Worlds Warm Up” Regatta hosted by Mimico Cruising Club attracted only 9 boats, but had the perfect weather conditions for strong Shark sailors – windy and lumpy. Sid Dakin and the Duck Soup crew won the regatta.

*   The “Gold Cup” Regatta organized and hosted by The Toronto Sailing and Canoe Club was the best-attended regatta in the North Shore area this past year. 31 boats participated, including Sharks from Montreal, Buffalo, Windsor, South Shore, Golden Horseshoe, and of course the North Shore. Thanks for coming! The regatta was won by Mo Regnier and the Sponge Worthy crew.

*   33 Sharks from the NSSCA participated (at least once) in the above 5 regattas.

*   The NSSCA “Tip Top” trophy was awarded to Sid Dakin and the crew on Duck Soup. This trophy is awarded annually to the most successful NS member competing at NS events.

The North Shore Shark Class Association is in excellent financial shape. Our Treasurer Donna Scott has kept us financially responsible and provided excellent counsel and fiscal management. Thank you Donna.

The North Shore has put together a strong executive team for 2001. We anticipate a full, exciting regatta season, and guarantee you will have a great time at our North Shore events – both on and off the water.

Finally, the NSSCA recognizes Bill Henderson and Ivan Amery for the time and talent they have put into the Shark Home Page. This site is entertaining, resourceful, and serves as a valuable communication media for all Sharkie’s and interested sailors around the world! Thank you from all the North Shore Shark members and sailors everywhere.

Enjoy your winter! See you on the water in May!
