Hello Shark Sailors!

For most of you the season is over for another year.  Some of the diehards in Hamilton will be toughing it out until the end of November.  Let's hope the weather stays this nice for them.

I am writing to inform you that Ashbridge's Bay Yacht Club is hoping to host the 2008 Canadian Women's Keelboat Championship, and to do that they need our help.  They are hoping to assemble between 20 and 30 sharks as loaner boats to be used by female crews from across the country to compete in this regatta.  This is a great opportunity for the class to gain some exposure to some elite Canadian female sailors.  It may also serve as a chance for some of the sailors in our fleet to compete themselves.

In order to do this, Janice Sharpe, the head of the organizing committee and ABYC are trying to make it as easy as possible for anyone who may be interested in lending their boat to do so.  ABYC will host the 2008 Gold Cup regatta on September 6-7, 2008 and the Women's Keelboat Championship will follow the weekend after on September 13-14.  You can come to ABYC, race all weekend and head home afterwards without having to take your boat home.

The boats can stay at ABYC for the week and be picked up from ABYC following racing on the following Sunday.  We may be able to arrange for some boats to be returned directly to local clubs.  For those heading to Homecomers, you can pull your boat and leave it at ABYC for another week.  If you are from the east, simply drop by the club and pick it up on the way to Niagara a week later.

Below is a link to a letter from Janice Sharpe, asking for our support.  Check out the website and news clips from last year’s event.  What we need now is some indication of who might be willing to lend boats so we know we can put this all together.  In that regard, if you have any interest in assisting, please let me know as soon as possible.  I would like to make sure that we get some of the top boats in the fleet out, to give people the best experience possible.  The hope is that some of these crews continue on after the fact.  We may also have some crews out practising at regattas earlier in the season.  All of this is good for the class.

Please send me an email at president@shark24.org and let me know you can help.
