SharkBytes Survey Results

Below are the raw comments on what people believed was bad about the site.

General Comments

Tell us what's bad about SharkBytes.
Can be a little difficult to navigate.
little interaction from members in workshops
Not enough people help to make it happen - the same reason that the newsletter died!
I would like to see more updates frequently.
carelessness "thing" insteard of "think" for example in this survey makes it look sloppy; minutes of annual meetings not even remotely up to date makes it appear the exec is "hiding" stuff from people who didn't attend the meeting and burying info from people who did.
Garish appearance, layout and fonts
needs to be put into a simple layout for easy navigation
To much of the info is out of date .

The update are not coming fast enought, IE 2007 racing schedule, boat of the year, up coming events.

Should be a fasting way of tracking new boats and where they are and updating it als
I often have trouble finding my way back to something I have read. This is especially true of some of the accounts of Shark sailor's experiences
No new pictures in "sharks at play"
More pictures!
It's all good
Racing page and one design rules don't interest me.
Old info, same old pictures.

Embedded pages make it difficult to see where you are  on the site.

Expandable menus would make it easier to go directly to the page you want.
NOT UPDATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHERE IS THE RACING SCHEDULE?????????
Everything else.

The nagivation sucks. It's impossible to find anything worth while.  When you do find "it", what you're looking at is usually a few years old.  The lack of a common look and feel.  With $35,000+ dollars in the bank, I'm sure something could be done.  Also, you may want to fix the spelling/grammar mistakes in this survey.
Nothing, even though I'm not a shark sailor I could see myself as one.
regatta page still not up yet for 2007.  whats the deal.

no complaints.
As a new racer I would like lots more tips and suggestions on how to race, how to improve.  How about a series of video "tips" such as those found on You Tube.  The easier we make it for people to join - the more that will be willing to join the ranks.

I would be willing to help in creating the clips - if it is an idea that makes sense.

needs more stories about the races and parties.also more on crusing on sharks
Little has been updated in the last few years.
Not much input in the discussion areas.
not enough images, info is dated....more images with views of layout, etc. or great fun, not eole drinking at regattas or acceting awards
Racing results are not always up to date. Look at the Shark of the Year, has not been updated since last fall.

We are into to March and the 2007 Racing schedule is not yet published.

I'd like to see current members listed (confidentailly if need be).

Minutes of meetings, financial statements etc would be informative to have
Most info badly out of date or too slow appearing.

Site visuals archaic, needs some pizzaz/colour.
- Should ask members to write articles, submit stories, and other informaiton.

- The photo sections should be updated or kept up to date with

- Some information is very hard to find, requiring google to find the pages (no direct links?)

- Having chat
Out of date information:  I would like to see an up-to-date database file, in Excel, posted on the site.  Perhaps using Anna Fricker’s database as the source.  It should contain fields for Sail Number, Boat Name, Owner Name, Club affiliation and Location.  Then the older outdated lists in the More About Sharks section could be archived and the up-to-date list posted in the form of an Owner’s Registry.

Boats for Sale:  This section should be set up to automatically delete a listing after a fixed period of time such as three months.  If the boat remains unsold, a new posting should be made.  Ideally the vendor should delete the listing when the boat is sold but I know this doesn’t happen.  There are too many stale listings on the site.

Members Login:  I would like to see a Members section with a working login.  This section would be reserved for Minutes of the AGM and other confidential or “members only” information.  New additions to this section could be highlighted by a note in the Latest News section, such as “See new information in Members Section.”
Not as good as when Bill ran it, but I guess he was retired. Thanks for everything you do for the Sharks!

Navigation is difficult for the uninitiated.  Consider looking up some information on mast tuning.  Would you guess it's under the menu heading "Member's Corner", in the Library?

The front page seems a little old fashioned.  What exactly is it's purpose?

Java buttons in "links" are really annoying.  Have you tried it with a variety of browsers?

Good luck with the revitalization.  I really like shark24.org even in it's present state.  Anything you do to improve it I really appreciate!
nothing
Nothing!
It took years to learn to navigate through most of th items.

Some of this survey is interesting. Now that I think about it, is it intuitive? or have I just been using it since the site went up and now I know where to look??

Not enough interaction (I know this is our fault!).

For example,I basically stopped posting or looking for crew needed/available from the lack of success in this section.

would be interesting to see if we could also get some sort of what's happenig in your region. Maybe there are some sharkies from the south shore who are unaware of the Niagara Cup or the Cornucopia Regatta (no loss though on this one..ha..ha, but seriously maybe it would't suck so bad if more were aware.)
Alot of the material is getting out-dated.
Out of date and not updated with new/relivant information.
too much very old stuff
The boat yard could need a make over.
How about puttinng the results of shark of the year on it's now 2007. It would be nice to have the 2006 results posted!!!
Frame navigation is so '96 and has to go.
how about posting the final results for 2006 shark of the year!!!!!!!
No complaints
I sometimes forget that I need it
It's out of date!
I have no problems with it.
Sometimes I click a link and it takes me back to where I was, or to a page that has another link with the same name that I just clicked, eg shark talk. Sometimes there are two links with similar names on the same page that then go to the same page, eg workshop outhauls internal, internal outhauls, library rudder strength, rudders. It gets confusing. Can't read previous discussions in shark talk.
The web site itself has lots (loads) of interesting information. But this information is hard to find and not kept up to date. I suspect that once upon a time the site was easy to navigate. But lack of maintenance means it has, over time, become unwieldily.
Nothing really -- online annual class association fees would be nice to have
A little old in design and form
The content is old, stagnent and irrelavent.

The tecnical info is outdated and wrong.

The pictures are old personal albums and not pertinant to the class as a whole.

Results are posted way too late.

The shark of the week is rarely flattering to the class and makes it look hokey.

There are no links to other class associations ie Europe.

The look is busy yet displays minimal information. Navigation is counter intuitive.
I would like to see more up to date articles in the work shop maybe a guide to everything a new shark owner needs to make sure he has everything on board he needs and everything he needs to rig a shark properly.
I have trouble finding crew and therfore sometimes end up crewing.

There are to many skippers and never enough crew.
?
The software the site is authored in and how it is set-up, it needs a re-design, preferably in dreamweaver!
out of date.
I find it hard to navigate.
How about posting 2006 shark of the year results
There was a lack of new material on the site,i have been on many commitee , and i know how difficult it is to find the time to spare to make such a commitement when there is a limited number

of people involved, but i appreciate what has been done.
I miss the old Shark Scan. Is there anyone out there who might assume the job of editor of an on line newsletter that could perhaps be added quarterly to SharkBytes?
The photo gallery is rarely updated. With all the digital cameras out there, there must be more images available.
needs more updates in the off season to maintain interest..............I know, it's hard without input from the members
For a year now I've refused to enter the boat yard. As the boats on the market get sold or otherwise, they never get removed. A clean slate or anything over a year get's deleted.
The time it takes to show race results.

Going to yacht club web sites will get you results much faster most of the time.
