ABOUT "TRAVELS WITH EOS" - by Bill

(Eos - The Greek Goddess of dawn, mother of the stars and
the winds)
While many of us now think of the Shark as an
essentially Canadian, Great Lakes boat, no fewer than 100 of the first 500
Sharks, built by George Hinterhoeller at Niagara-on-the-Lake, were sold to
sailors and dealers in the United States. Of these, 8 went to
Michigan and 1, hull #480, was registered to Burr Sales, on Woodward
Avenue in Detroit. This Shark, named Eos by her 'Brit' owner, Randal
Peart, became a 'legend' in the annals of the fleet, sailing from the
Great Lakes, to Florida, across to the Bahamas, and Bermuda, to Falmouth
on the south coat of England and subsequently, through the canals of
France, and back again to the Bahamas. This 'epic voyage' is the
subject of our feature article "TRAVELS WITH EOS",
written for us by Randal Peart himself.
We would like to record a very special vote of thanks
to Randal's wife Pat, without whose, helpful persistence we might not have
been able to '...give substance to the legend...' and fill in yet another
chapter in the history of the Shark.
Who is Randal Peart? Well, Randal explains
something of who he was in the article itself and it would seem
superfluous to add more here. If we are, as I believe, the 'sum of
our past', he probably still is, as he was described to me, "...an
eccentric, if not mad, Englishman..." Given his exploits, this
seems an appropriate description... so CLICK ON HIS PICTURE and read
on!
